Permalink Reply by Marina F. on January 20, 2012 at 10:47am That's an interesting proposal to have discussions on this topic to coincide with World Suicide Prevention day on 10 September. I will ask my Lithuanian colleagues and their world families for the causes and what is going on now to prevent. Thanks Shamsher.
Suiciding is really sad subject to talk about in Lithuania. My grandfather has suicided and recently (last summer) my very good friend hung himself as well. I never knew a more optimistic, more smiley and positive person like him. Unfortunately we all missed something and then it was to late to learn what kind of depression was behind this optimistic behaviour. He was a very successful businessman as well but all was about the relationship within his family. We learned this from his brother later on.
By my personal opinion why suiciding rate so high in Lithuania there's two main reasons. First suiciding is so common thing, as like I said there is always someone's friend or family member, that people with problems start accepting this as normal way to resolve their problems just to quit everything. Secondly or maybe that should be the reason number one, psychological education isn't enough for children at schools to learn how to face psychological challenges and how to understand and control emotions and ways of changing their own lives.
Professionals would say there is more reasons like alcohol addictions, shortage of cultural activities and etc, but I think we have to start from education.
And I think things are moving forward regards this it just probably needs some more time.
Permalink Reply by shamsher singh on January 21, 2012 at 8:21am many ideas are there like organising meditation camps with the help of experts, encouraging people for cultural activities , requesting government for more mental health centers, a tool free numbers for people to disclose sorrows or matters of heart etc. I have many other ideas to curb the trend of suicides. also have need to analysis things from the diffrent aspects.I have also busy life as i am working as finacial manager in multinational company. At the initial level i have need to join maximum people to be the part of this compaign.therefor again and again i will request to lithuanian people to come and be the reason of others smiling and to implement our ideas to prevent suicide
